Senior R&D Chemist
Jackson Hogg are pleased to be working with a North East based CDMO which supports the full product lifecycle, from traceability to process development to full-scale manufacturing. They are looking to appoint a Senior R&D Chemist to join their growing research and development function.
This is mainly an office-based position (with occasional lab support to the technical team), main activities will include planning experimental procedures, being the chemical process lead, writing SOPs, reviewing processes and equipment with a focus on CDMO API development and hiring R&D staff. Other activities include organisational and safety-related tasks (and supporting QA in cGMP related activities).
Key Responsibilities
? Working closely with the R&D manager.
? Carry out 1:1 meetings and personal and development review of R&D staff.
? Planning the practical work and scale required as project lead.
? Be able to improve and/or create synthetic route for scale up process.
? Overseeing the process development.
? Attending meetings with the customers and internal team members.
? Technical support for proposal writing.
? Observing critical parts of a process.
? Assistance in the implementation of production processes.
? Process improvements.
? Meeting suppliers for new equipment/software etc.
? Organization of laboratory work.
? Ordering chemicals, equipment, and consumables.
? Training of the R&D staff.
? Preparation and follow-up of internal and external audits.
? Creation and reviewing documentation.
? Carrying out all activities in compliance with the HACCP concept and in compliance with all relevant specifications.
? Collaboration with other senior R&D members to cover for projects upon their absence and on day-to-day activities.
Qualifications & Experience
? Completed a MSc or PhD in Chemistry or a similar discipline.
? Laboratory experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
? Minimum 5 years work experience in the CDMO process development.
? Understanding of cGMP regulations.
? Appreciation of some of the following QA, Manufacturing, Engineering and/or Safety.
? Experience of tech transfer from R&D to pilot plant and/or full-scale manufacturing.
? Experience in batch planning.
? Ability to search the literature and extract information.
? Active problem-solving attitude and an eye for detail.
? Ability to quickly learn new skills and knowledge.
? Able to create planning systems.
? Able to supervise and train lab technicians and pass on knowledge.
? Flexibility to be able to work on extended working hours when needed.
? Multidisciplinary skills to work on more than one project simultaneously.
? Knowledge of process development and separation technologies.
? Very good written and spoken English.
? Ability to work in a team, manage a team, flexibility, ability to work under pressure, Independent, solution- and quality-oriented way of working.
