Business Development Manager
Derbyshire
£40,000 – £50,000 + Car + Bonus
Type: Full-time, Permanent
We’re working with a long-established, family-run timber and building materials business to find a Business Development Manager who’s ready to make a real impact. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong local knowledge and a background in merchant sales, timber, or building materials.
The Role
This is a field-based role where you’ll be the face of the business in Derbyshire and surrounding areas, focusing on growing revenue and strengthening customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively source and win new trade accounts – from builders and contractors to joiners and developers
- Manage and grow existing accounts, ensuring consistent spend and customer satisfaction
- Reactivate dormant or low-spend accounts, uncovering new opportunities
- Maintain a strong presence out in the field – site visits, trade counters, and customer meetings
- Feed insights, leads, and opportunities back to the internal sales team
- Champion the full product offering – timber, engineered timber, and manufactured buildings
What You’ll Be Like
We’re looking for a confident, self-starting sales professional who thrives out on the road and knows how to build rapport quickly.
You’ll be successful if you:
- Have experience in field sales or merchanting, ideally within timber, construction, or building supplies
- Are confident working autonomously and managing your own diary
- Know how to open doors, spot opportunities, and turn relationships into revenue
- Enjoy being customer-facing and have a genuine interest in the trade and construction sector
- Are proactive, organised, and naturally driven to meet and exceed targets
- Hold a UK driving licence
- A growing portfolio of new customers with increasing monthly spend
- Strong, consistent relationships with key local trade accounts
- A well-managed customer ledger with reactivated and retained business
- High visibility across your territory and positive feedback from clients and internal teams
- Join a respected, growing company with 90+ years of industry heritage
- Competitive salary (£40–50k), company car, and performance-based bonus
- Real autonomy and trust to develop your patch
- Supportive leadership and a collaborative, team-oriented culture
