The Role
The Global Academic Sales Director will lead and manage the Academic Sales organization across North America and Europe, driving performance and adoption within top-tier research institutions, translational centers, and academic consortia. This role is responsible for developing and executing a global academic sales strategy, coaching a high-performing team, and partnering cross-functionally to support revenue growth and the company’s transition toward clinical utility.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in oncology translational research, clinical genomics, and a proven record of success in managing complex sales environments and high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities

Lead, develop, and manage the global Academic Sales team (5–8 individual contributors), providing direct oversight, coaching, and performance management.

Set clear goals and accountability measures, ensuring execution of territory plans and attainment of sales targets.

Design and execute a global academic sales strategy aligned with company objectives.

Build and maintain relationships with key academic customers and thought leaders worldwide.

Oversee territory planning, revenue forecasting, pipeline development, and funnel management.

Collaborate with marketing, product, clinical, and executive teams to align strategy and positioning.

Manage third-party channel sales relationships and develop strategies to grow revenue.

Deliver impactful presentations highlighting scientific and commercial value.

Represent the company at academic conferences and industry events to drive visibility and pipeline growth.
Required Qualifications
-
8+ years of life science tools sales experience (including capital equipment), with at least 3 years in sales leadership; international experience preferred.

B.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology or a related field (MBA, M.S., or Ph.D. preferred).

Strong knowledge of genomics technologies, including Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and related applications.

Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams, achieving and exceeding sales goals, and maintaining long-term relationships with senior-level academic stakeholders.

Strong management skills, including hiring, coaching, and developing top talent.

Willingness to work from a home office and travel up to 60%, including regular field sales co-travel across North America and Europe.
Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $185,000 – $200,000, depending on experience and location.

Uncapped commission structure with $85,000 OTE tied to individual and team performance.
