Jackson Hogg Procurement division are partnering with an organisation in Stockton-on-Tees on the appointment of a Buyer to join their team, initially on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months.

The role is offering £35-40k depending on experience, and offers hybrid working after an initial training period of 3 days in office and 2 days working from home. 

The Buyer will work as part of a high-performing, customer-focused Procurement team, managing sourcing and supplier activities to support safe and reliable plant operations. The role will support operational & maintenance activities, planned outages & shutdowns through the timely procurement of critical goods and services.

 

The Role

Procurement & Sourcing 

<ul>
	<li>Lead RFQs, evaluating supplier quotations against commercial requirements and liaising with stakeholders to support the evaluation of technical & operational requirements  
	<li>Conduct tender activities and commercial bid evaluations on low-medium risk/value requirements, and make recommendations for supplier selection & award
	<li>Negotiate pricing & terms and conditions to achieve value for money and mitigate risk
	<li>Identify and evaluate new and alternative suppliers through sourcing activities, including ownership of supplier onboarding & due diligence
</ul>

Contracting & Contract Management:

<ul>
	<li>Review supplier terms and conditions and contract documentation, identifying commercial risks and non-standard clauses, and support or lead negotiations to ensure contracts meet business and procurement requirements.
	<li>Maintain contract records and ensure contracts, amendments and supporting documentation are accurately stored within company systems
	<li>Support the management of contract renewals, extensions and termination activities, ensuring continuity of supply and compliance with governance requirements
</ul>

Cost & Supplier Performance Management: 

<ul>
	<li>Develop & maintain effective supplier relationships, managing supplier performance through regular review of KPIs & SLAs (where applicable,) NCRs and stakeholder feedback 
	<li>Support supplier review meetings and contract performance reviews, driving continuous improvement initiatives where appropriate
	<li>Identify and deliver cost reduction & value improvement (including efficiency opportunities) through effective sourcing and supplier engagement
	<li>Support the planning and execution of supplier audits
</ul>

Systems & Processes:

	<li>Ensure all procurement activities comply with procurement policies, procedures, delegated authorities, and any relevant laws and legislation
	<li>Use procurement systems to manage the P2P process, supplier information and procurement data accurately and efficiently
	<li>Support the resolution of invoice disputes, working with suppliers, stakeholders and Finance to achieve timely resolution and prevent recurrence

The Person/Requirements

Role Description 
Carry out laboratory analysis to a defined analytical schedule with an active part in the running of the plant with sampling duties. Working with the production shift team to carry out the short-term &amp; instantaneous operational tasks needed to achieve the production plan for the plant, always adhering to strict safety standards. 
Responsibilities:

	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt">Support the Team Leader in achieving production KPIs and completing daily operational activities.</li>
	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt">Liaise closely with control room operators to communicate plant conditions and coordinate operational changes.</li>
	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt">Perform maintenance and basic equipment troubleshooting.</li>
	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt">Contribute to the development of new operational areas and support business growth initiatives.</li>
	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt">Complete and thorough communication between shifts. This includes effective communication via the laboratory log and the production log system to ensure a smooth transition and common goals across the production shift teams.</li>

Experience:

	<li style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt">Minimum 5 years’ experience working within a production laboratory environment.</li>

Clean energy without limits

The organisation’s headcount plan was ambitious, and required an expanded recruitment capability to deliver it, but with varying recruitment volumes throughout the year, they needed a flexible solution. Geopura considered hiring an in-house recruiter, but the niche roles they were looking to fill, combined with the variability of their recruitment requirements and limited employer brand within the market meant that this solution wasn’t viable. They also considered expanding their use of recruitment agencies, but the unpredictable costs involved in this were difficult to align with their plans.

Geopura’s growth was starting to accelerate in 2022, but that came with its own problems

By placing one of our talent partners on-site, on a scalable basis from two to five days per week, we were able to optimise their recruitment process from start to finish and help them achieve their headcount plan. Our process started with an in-depth audit of their recruitment process, from job specification writing and job board usage analysis to interview technique and offer management. From there we took detailed briefs of the roles on offer and got to work sourcing candidates directly through our talent partner, with assistance from our wider, specialist recruitment team, and created a preferred supplierlist for the specialist roles we didn’t have the expertise to fill ourselves.

To assist Geopura in their ambitious growth journey, Jackson Hogg proposed our flagship Talent Partnership service.

Our talent partner assisted in creating an apprenticeship scheme to foster new talent, and by optimising the recruitment process and controlling all activities centrally, time to offer was reduced by 22%. This all allowed Geopurato achieve their headcount plans, continue their growth journey and focus on their innovative technologies rather than recruitment. Due to the success of their first 12 months, Geoupura extended their contract by a further 12 months.
