Senior Supervisor – Press Shop
North East England | Manufacturing | PermanentJackson Hogg is supporting a well?established manufacturing site in the North East with the appointment of a Senior Supervisor within their Press Shop (P200) operation.
This role exists to strengthen frontline leadership, shift accountability, and operational control in a high?volume press environment. It’s a genuine step?up opportunity for an experienced Supervisor or Shift Leader who wants full ownership of KPI performance, people leadership, and continuous improvement – not just day?to?day firefighting.
The role
As Senior Supervisor, you will lead a shift within the Press Shop, taking full accountability for safety, quality, cost, delivery, morale, and productivity in line with the Unipres Production System (UPS) and the site’s mid?term strategic plan.You’ll manage Supervisors and operators, drive structured problem?solving on the shop floor, and ensure output, availability, and standards are consistently met in a demanding manufacturing environment.
This is a hands?on leadership role, not an office?based post.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and deploy QCDMS across your shift to achieve departmental and UPS targets
- Own shift?level KPI performance, driving structured improvement aligned to mid?term strategy
- Manage and develop Supervisors through coaching, feedback, and clear performance expectations
- Deliver sustained output improvements through SPM optimisation, press availability, and shift control discipline
- Ensure daily production plans align with capacity, cost targets, and customer demand
- Drive a culture of ownership, visual management, and problem?solving at shop?floor level
- Work cross?functionally with Engineering, Quality, HR, and Planning to deliver site objectives
- Manage absence, holidays, disciplinaries, and recruitment in line with HR policy
- Support succession planning and development of future leaders within the Press Shop
- Maintain effective communication and cascade of safety, quality, and production updates
- Take ownership of shift?level budgetary control and contribute to cost?reduction initiatives
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Safety, Health & Environment
- Ensure all SHE policies and procedures are followed at all times
- Act immediately on safety concerns and implement countermeasures to reduce risk
- Create and deploy strategic safety improvement plans
- Report safety KPI performance and countermeasures for accidents and near misses
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of risk assessments and proactive safety management
What we’re looking for
This role will suit someone who already operates at a senior supervisory or shift management level in a fast?paced manufacturing environment.Essential:
- Minimum Level 5 qualification in Operations Management (or equivalent)
- Proven experience leading people in a high?volume manufacturing operation
- Strong understanding of QCDMS, continuous improvement, and visual management
- Track record of improving KPI performance under pressure
- Advanced knowledge of safety risk assessments and safety KPI reporting
- Experience handling disciplinaries, appraisals, and manpower planning
- Confident communicator able to influence at all levels
- IT?literate, comfortable using digital systems for production, safety, and training data
- A visible, safety?first leader who sets standards on the shop floor
- Automotive manufacturing experience
- Strong technical background in press operations or die engineering
- Experience working at a strategic level within a structured production system
