When interviewing for a new role you are given the opportunity to ask questions to the interviewer. Not only is it a great opportunity to find out more about a company, but it’s also a great way to make you stand out as a candidate. Preparing a few questions in advance can help you put your best foot forward. Here are a few of the best questions to ask in an interview: What are the company’s core values?  It is always important to ask an interviewer about a company’s core values. The company’s core values are the guiding principles that dictate how they operate on a day-to-day basis. For example, if one of their values is ‘innovation’, they will likely encourage employees to find new and better ways of doing things. On the other hand, if ‘stability’ is one of their core values, they may be more resistant to change. It’ll help you get a good sense as to whether you’ll be a good fit in the organisation, and whether the work culture is what you’re looking for. This will help ensure that you are aligned with the organization and will be able to thrive in your new role. What are the biggest challenges facing the company right now and how can I help address them?  This question can give you an insight into the future of the company as well as plans for long-term development and growth. It can give you a look into the challenges currently facing the company and how these may impact your role upon starting, allowing you to decide whether the organisation is right for you. By asking how you can help address these challenges, it shows that you’re motivated and ready to start in your role as well as giving you an idea of what to expect when starting. Additionally, it shows that you’re interested in more than just collecting a paycheque – you want to contribute to the company’s success. In any case, careful consideration of the challenges facing the company and how you can help address them is an essential part of deciding whether or not to accept a job offer. How does this position contribute to the overall success of the company?  When interviewing for a position, it is always important to ask the interviewer how this position contributes to the overall success of the company. By doing so, you can gain a better understanding of the expectations and requirements of the role. By understanding how your role contributes to the company’s success, you will be able to perform your duties more effectively and contribute to the company’s bottom line.  In addition, by asking this question, you can demonstrate your interest in and commitment to the company. Therefore, asking this question during an interview is a great way to show your dedication to the company and your desire to excel in your role. Where have successful employees previously in this position progressed to?  This question accomplishes two things. First, it shows that you are interested in career growth and advancement. Second, it gives you insight into the types of opportunities that are available within the company. If most employees who started in your position have been promoted to a higher level, then you can be confident that there are opportunities for advancement. On the other hand, if most employees have left the company after a few years, then you may want to ask further questions about job satisfaction and turnover rates. Asking about career progression is a great way to get a better understanding of the company and its culture. In summary, asking the right questions in an interview can really set you apart from other candidates. You should plan what questions you want to ask in advance, not only to stand out but as an opportunity to find out more about the company. It can be the perfect opportunity to see what the culture and workplace is like, as well as what to expect when first starting.
