Senior Electrical Engineer 
Adlington or Sunderland 
£50,000–£60,000 per year (DOE)

Jackson Hogg is delighted to be supporting a leading engineering businessfor the appointment of a Senior Electrical Engineer into their growing engineering function. This role will play a critical part in delivering complex projects in the energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.

Role Overview

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will take ownership of all electrical engineering deliverables within multi-disciplinary project teams, from concept through to commissioning. 

Senior Electrical Engineer – Key Responsibilities

<ul>
	<li>
	Lead the execution of electrical engineering scopes, including technical specifications, control panel and MCC design, PLC/field equipment selection, and cable calculations.
	
	<li>
	Act as a technical liaison with customers to manage scope, clarify deliverables, and support the resolution of engineering queries.
	
	<li>
	Produce, review, and maintain essential technical documentation such as SLDs, I/O schedules, termination drawings, load schedules, and instrument data sheets.
	
	<li>
	Execute subcontractor interface management, scope definition, requisitioning, and technical bid evaluation for bought-out equipment.
	
	<li>
	Ensure project delivery aligns with relevant safety regulations, standards, and CE/UKCA requirements.
	
	<li>
	Perform gap analysis, risk assessments, and design reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
	
	<li>
	Contribute to HAZOPs, FATs, and ITP generation, ensuring that lessons learned and continuous improvement are embedded into project outcomes.
	
	<li>
	Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage risks, cost implications, and project timescales.
	
	<li>
	Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers.

Senior Electrical Engineer – Key Requirements

<ul>
	<li>
	HNC or higher in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering.
	
	<li>
	Significant experience in contract environments, ideally within material handling, process, or heavy industrial sectors.
	
	<li>
	Strong working knowledge of electrical distribution, control and protection systems, and their application in demanding operational environments.
	
	<li>
	Understanding of mechanical and process interactions and how they influence electrical and control design.
	
	<li>
	Familiarity with current IET Wiring Regulations, CE/UKCA compliance, ATEX considerations, and design risk assessments.
	
	<li>
	Ability to produce engineering deliverables in line with project cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
	
	<li>
	Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive and solutions-driven mindset.
	
</ul>

This is a permanent, hybrid role, with flexibility between Adlington and Sunderland offices and occasional travel as required.

Clean energy without limits

The organisation’s headcount plan was ambitious, and required an expanded recruitment capability to deliver it, but with varying recruitment volumes throughout the year, they needed a flexible solution. Geopura considered hiring an in-house recruiter, but the niche roles they were looking to fill, combined with the variability of their recruitment requirements and limited employer brand within the market meant that this solution wasn’t viable. They also considered expanding their use of recruitment agencies, but the unpredictable costs involved in this were difficult to align with their plans.

Geopura’s growth was starting to accelerate in 2022, but that came with its own problems

By placing one of our talent partners on-site, on a scalable basis from two to five days per week, we were able to optimise their recruitment process from start to finish and help them achieve their headcount plan. Our process started with an in-depth audit of their recruitment process, from job specification writing and job board usage analysis to interview technique and offer management. From there we took detailed briefs of the roles on offer and got to work sourcing candidates directly through our talent partner, with assistance from our wider, specialist recruitment team, and created a preferred supplierlist for the specialist roles we didn’t have the expertise to fill ourselves.

To assist Geopura in their ambitious growth journey, Jackson Hogg proposed our flagship Talent Partnership service.

Our talent partner assisted in creating an apprenticeship scheme to foster new talent, and by optimising the recruitment process and controlling all activities centrally, time to offer was reduced by 22%. This all allowed Geopurato achieve their headcount plans, continue their growth journey and focus on their innovative technologies rather than recruitment. Due to the success of their first 12 months, Geoupura extended their contract by a further 12 months.
