Field Application Scientist- Biophyscial Instruments
15381
We’re partnering with an innovative life sciences tools company developing a next-generation in-solution molecule detection platform. Their technology enables researchers in academia and pharma to study molecular interactions with unmatched precision and sensitivity — without the artefacts of surface immobilisation.
As part of their continued global expansion, they’re seeking a Field Application Scientist (FAS) to lead scientific engagement, technical deployment, and customer success across their growing user base.
This role combines hands-on expertise in single-molecule fluorescence methods (e.g. FRET, FCS, FCCS) with strong communication and customer interaction skills. You’ll play a central role in ensuring customers achieve robust, reproducible results while feeding insights back into product and application development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Demonstrations & Pre-Sales Support
-
Partner with Sales and Product teams to qualify customer applications and align expectations.
-
Plan and execute live or remote instrument demonstrations showcasing FRET, FCS, and FCCS workflows.
-
Design and run experiments that highlight the system’s sensitivity and precision.
-
Analyse and present data to illustrate scientific and performance advantages.
2. Installation & Onboarding
-
Lead on-site system installation, qualification, and user training.
-
Perform calibration and initial assay setup to ensure optimal performance.
-
Deliver structured onboarding programs covering experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis.
-
Document installation and training activities according to quality processes.
3. Application Development & Technical Support
-
Support users in developing and optimising single-molecule assays within their research contexts.
-
Troubleshoot hardware, software, and experimental challenges both on-site and remotely.
-
Capture field insights and user feedback to drive product improvements.
4. Scientific Expertise & Knowledge Sharing
-
Act as a technical authority on FRET, FCS, and FCCS.
-
Contribute to application notes, training materials, and technical publications.
-
Represent the company at scientific conferences and workshops.
5. Internal Collaboration
-
Liaise with R&D, Product Management, and Assay Development teams to channel customer feedback into new features and refinements.
-
Support in-field validation of new product releases.
Essential Experience
-
PhD in Biophysics, Physical Chemistry, or a related field.
-
Hands-on expertise in single-molecule fluorescence methods (FRET, FCS, FCCS).
-
Proven ability to install, operate, and maintain complex optical or biophysical instrumentation.
-
Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and assay domains.
-
Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
-
Experience in a customer-facing scientific or technical support role.
-
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approx. 40–50%).
Desirable Experience
-
Experience conducting instrument demos or managing customer evaluations.
-
Familiarity with fluorescence spectroscopy systems (confocal, multiparameter, or related).
-
Working knowledge of data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or FCS/FRET-specific software).
-
Understanding of pharma assay validation workflows.
-
Experience using CRM or service documentation systems.
The Opportunity
-
Join a high-impact company pioneering molecular analysis technologies.
-
Play a key customer-facing role bridging advanced biophysics and practical application.
-
Engage with leading academic and pharmaceutical research groups.
-
Competitive salary, share options, 4% employer pension, and 26 days annual leave.
