Mechanical Fitter
Jackson Hogg is supporting a growing engineering business in Sunderland to recruit an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a close-knit manufacturing team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on bespoke road repair machinery in a varied and hands-on role with long-term stability and overtime opportunities.
The Role
You will be involved in assembling new machines for internal use and external customers, as well as maintaining a fleet of specialist vehicles. The work is mainly workshop-based, with occasional travel to support breakdowns across the UK. You will work closely with the wider engineering team to build, maintain and improve reliable and safe equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Assembly of bespoke machinery and integration onto vehicles
• New machine builds and refurbishment work
• Planned and reactive mechanical maintenance
• Fault finding, repair, replacement and testing of components
• General factory maintenance and housekeeping
• Liaising with colleagues and customers regarding breakdowns and repairs
• Completing repair and maintenance records
• Supporting and training new team members when required
• Undertaking additional duties to support the wider business as needed
About You
• Recognised mechanical qualification or strong relevant experience
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
• Good knowledge of mechanical principles with a logical approach to fault finding
• Confident using hand tools, marking out, drilling, grinding and dressing
• Experience with preventative maintenance and continuous improvement
• Strong communication skills with a flexible and proactive attitude
• A full UK driving licence is required
• HGV licence is advantageous
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Desirable Experience
• Small diesel or petrol engines
• Compressors and high-volume blowers
• Hydraulics and pneumatics
