Role Purpose
The Process Engineer plays a critical role in the design, construction, commissioning, and long-term operation of a new pyrolysis recycling facility.
During the build phase, this role supports plant layout, equipment specification, process design, procedure development, and commissioning planning.
Once operational, the Process Engineer will monitor and optimise all aspects of the facility, improve efficiency, ensure quality output, and drive continuous improvement. The process engineering team will also own and manage the management of change process.
Key Duties
Build and Commissioning Phase

Collaborate with design and project teams to influence plant layout, process flows, and equipment selection.

Support the development and review of P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.

Assist with purchasing, installation, testing, and commissioning of recycling equipment and systems.

Contribute to the creation of SOPs, HAZOPs, and operational readiness plans.

Chair and/or act as technical representative in HAZOP reviews.

Work closely with Production and Quality to develop plant operating procedures, including water batching and commissioning procedures.

Take a lead role in completing performance guarantee trials at the new site.

Participate in factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
Operational Phase
-
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Monitor and optimise recycling processes against performance targets and KPIs.

Troubleshoot process issues and collaborate with maintenance and production teams.
-
Implement and lead technical continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

Support quality control to ensure compliance with product specifications.

Maintain accurate process documentation, performance data, and reports.

Lead or contribute to capital projects related to process improvements and equipment upgrades.

Carry out other ad hoc duties as required.
Key Accountabilities
Build and Commissioning Phase

Timely production of accurate P&IDs and PFDs.

Specification of appropriate and suitable equipment.

Implementation of robust SOPs and HAZOPs.

Deployment of hardware/software to enable effective KPI measurement.

Development of a comprehensive suite of operating procedures.
Operational Phase
-
Achieve zero incidents in line with safety and environmental standards.

Implement process KPIs that support performance targets.
-
Meet or exceed throughput, yield, and quality targets.

Minimise plant downtime.
-
Provide accurate and timely documentation and reports.
-
Successfully implement process improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering (or related discipline).

Professional Membership with IChemE or equivalent.
-
Experience in process engineering, ideally in plastics, polymer manufacturing, or recycling.

Experience supporting the build, commissioning, or start-up of a new facility (including international projects).

Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement certifications.

Working knowledge of ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 standards.
