Role Overview
The Microplate Reader Engineer is responsible for the refurbishment, calibration, installation, servicing, and technical support of microplate readers across our customer base in Massachusetts and the surrounding region. This role blends hands?on engineering, customer interaction, and technical problem?solving in a fast?paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical / Engineering
- Refurbish, repair, and validate microplate readers (absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, and multimode systems).
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repairs in-house and on customer sites.
- Execute calibrations and performance verification to OEM and internal quality standards.
- Diagnose electronic, optical, mechanical, and software-related faults.
- Document service activities, test results, and refurbishment records accurately.
Field Support / Customer Interaction
- Install and commission refurbished systems at customer sites.
- Provide end?user training and technical guidance.
- Act as a technical point of contact, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Support pre?sales by advising on technical fit and application requirements when needed.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to internal quality systems and SOPs.
- Support instrument qualification (IQ/OQ) documentation where applicable.
- Ensure refurbished equipment meets regulatory and customer expectations.
Required Experience & Skills
- 3+ years of experience servicing microplate readers or related lab instrumentation (OEM, third?party service, or internal lab engineering).
- Strong understanding of optical detection technologies (absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence).
- Hands?on troubleshooting skills across electronics, optics, and mechanical systems.
- Experience working with refurbished or certified pre?owned instruments preferred.
- Comfortable working independently in a field?based role.
- Proficient with service documentation and basic software diagnostics.
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Life Sciences, or equivalent practical experience.
