Senior Electrical Design Engineer

• To oversee the design, development, installation and commissioning of electrical engineering systems and equipment within the Blyth site.
• To provide specialist technical support to electrical engineering activities in the delivery of offshore renewable energy related commercial, capital and research projects to industry standards and safety regulations.
• To support the delivery of asset developments that address future business alignment strategies while upgrading and supporting maintenance of electrical equipment and related sub-systems within test facilities.

Accountabilities

• Authorised Person duties and technical support of LV electrical systems across the Blyth site, including management of electrical contractors.

• Delivery of renewable energy related commercial testing activities and research projects.

• Design authority for electrical hardware activities including installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead problem solving for complex engineering issues, processes and projects.

• Provide electrical engineering expertise for design, development and testing activities.

• Manage multiple projects with responsibility for time, quality and cost.

• Maintain project and test records in line with customer and accreditation requirements.

• Support tenders, budgets, customer engagement and supplier management.

• Carry out technical reviews and approvals of reports, drawings and procedures.

• Keep up to date with relevant technologies, standards and engineering best practice.

• Ensure installations and equipment setups meet required standards.

• Mentor and support the development of engineers.

• Present project updates and proposals to stakeholders and clients.

• Identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement and asset enhancement.

• Ensure compliance with ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO17025 standards.

• Undertake any additional duties required to support organisational objectives.

Skills & Experience

• Technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Knowledge of electrical systems including substations, transformers, converters, switchgear and protection.

• Experience of electrical testing and protection settings.

• Strong team-working skills in collaborative environments.

• Experience with electrical and mechanical power generation equipment.

• Knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, electronic and control engineering within renewable energy.

• Design, installation, testing and commissioning experience.

• Experience with MATLAB, Simulink and EPLAN.

• Detailed knowledge of BS7671 installation and testing standards.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
