Overview
Our client, a pioneering organisation in the biotechnology sector, is seeking an accomplished scientist to join their team as an Assay Development and Integration Lead. This is a high-impact role at the forefront of assay innovation, with responsibility for driving design, validation, and integration of advanced technologies within cutting-edge biodefence and diagnostic platforms.
The successful candidate will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), advising senior leadership, shaping scientific strategy, and leading on the delivery of breakthrough assay solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and validation of innovative assays, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Oversee assay integration into automated pipelines and wider technology platforms.

Evaluate emerging assay technologies for adoption.

Provide scientific direction and strategic input to senior leadership.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (molecular biology, engineering, bioinformatics, project management).

Ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity across assay development programs.

Deliver scientific updates and reports to stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
-
PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related discipline.

10–15 years of relevant commercial research experience (ideally in IVD devices, pharma, or regulated environments).

Strong background in assay development, validation, and integration on lab-on-chip platforms.

Expertise in sequencing (short- and long-read), virology, environmental metagenomics, and bioinformatics.

Proven ability to provide scientific leadership and influence at senior levels.

Excellent communication skills with experience mentoring and developing teams.
Essential Skills

Extensive experience in assay design and integration in regulated settings.

Next Generation Sequencing expertise.

Strong leadership and project management skills.

Familiarity with GLP, GDP, and other quality standards.
Desirable

Environmental metagenomics expertise.

Hands-on experience with MinION sequencing and associated bioinformatics.
