We’re supporting a rapidly growing life sciences tools company that has developed a cutting-edge molecule detection platform. Backed by strong academic origins and recent commercial traction, they are now expanding into a portfolio of high-sensitivity in-solution assay kits aimed at pharmaceutical and research markets.
The company is seeking a Product Manager (Assay Kits) to lead the definition, development, and launch of this new product line. This is an end-to-end product ownership role — ideal for someone who enjoys operating at the intersection of science, strategy, and execution.
The Role
The Product Manager will take ownership of the full product lifecycle — from concept through to market launch and ongoing optimisation. The role connects scientific, commercial, and operational functions, translating customer needs and market insights into viable, manufacturable assay products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Definition & Strategy
-
Define the vision, roadmap, and positioning for the assay kit portfolio.
-
Translate customer and market needs into precise technical and performance specifications.
-
Prioritise development programs based on market opportunity and scientific impact.
-
Balance innovation with scalability and operational feasibility.
2. Cross-functional Coordination
-
Act as the bridge between R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Commercial teams.
-
Manage development milestones: feasibility, optimisation, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
-
Ensure alignment with regulatory and quality standards.
3. Market Insight & Customer Engagement
-
Engage with pharmaceutical and academic partners to understand assay requirements and emerging applications.
-
Conduct market and competitive analyses to shape product strategy.
-
Identify new assay opportunities leveraging single-molecule and ultra-sensitive detection technologies.
4. Product Launch & Lifecycle Management
-
Lead validation and go-to-market planning.
-
Develop positioning, technical documentation, and training materials.
-
Monitor product performance post-launch and drive iterative improvements.
5. Documentation & Compliance
-
Own product specifications and design history documentation.
-
Ensure full compliance with internal quality systems and audit readiness.
Essential Experience
-
MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, or related field.
-
Demonstrated experience in product management or program ownership within life sciences tools, diagnostics, or pharma R&D environments.
-
Strong understanding of assay development workflows (design, optimisation, validation).
-
Proven track record of cross-functional project management.
-
Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
Desirable Experience
-
Background in molecule, fluorescence-based, or biophysical assay technologies.
-
Experience in kit productisation, design transfer, or manufacturing interface roles.
-
Familiarity with regulated development frameworks (GLP, ISO 13485, or equivalent).
-
Experience collaborating with pharmaceutical discovery or screening groups.
-
Experience managing external technology evaluations or partnerships.
The Opportunity
-
Join a high-growth company at the forefront of molecular analytics innovation.
-
Shape the strategic direction of a new assay kit product line from inception.
-
Work closely with senior leadership across scientific and commercial domains.
-
Competitive salary, equity participation, and a strong benefits package.
