A pioneering scientific technology company is seeking a Scientific Illustrator / Animator who combines visual creativity with scientific literacy. In this hands-on, collaborative role, you’ll translate complex molecular and biophysical concepts into clear, engaging visuals that communicate cutting-edge single-molecule research to scientists and customers worldwide.
Working on-site at the company’s Sheffield headquarters, you’ll collaborate directly with physicists, chemists, and engineers to produce precise, visually compelling materials for marketing, education, and technical communication.
Key Responsibilities

Create detailed scientific illustrations, animations, and schematics explaining molecular concepts, assay mechanisms, and instrumentation principles.

Develop visual assets for presentations, websites, product materials, application notes, and publications.

Collaborate with scientists and product specialists to ensure all visuals are scientifically accurate and on-brand.

Design infographics, figures, and layouts for marketing and technical documentation.

Support creation of video explainers and motion graphics for digital and exhibition use.

Maintain visual consistency and high quality across all materials.
Required Skills and Experience

Degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g. Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology) or equivalent ability to interpret complex science accurately.

Proven technical skill in illustration, graphic design, and/or animation.

Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Blender, or equivalent 2D/3D software.

Strong ability to visualise molecular or optical instrumentation processes.

Excellent sense of composition, visual hierarchy, and colour for scientific communication.

Exceptional attention to detail and clarity in representing abstract concepts.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with scientific teams.
Desirable

Experience producing visuals for life sciences, biophysics, or analytical instrumentation.

Familiarity with 3D animation workflows, including rendering and basic rigging.

Experience designing for both digital and print.

Understanding of data visualisation and figure preparation for publications.
