We are currently recruiting for a certified Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA).
This is a key position within a highly reputable organisation, focused on ensuring complete compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR).
I’m looking to speak with experienced professionals who can deliver expert guidance, support, and training to a diverse client base across multiple industries.
Requirements

A valid Certificate of Competence to act as a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) from an HSE-recognised Assessing Body (e.g., RPA 2000).

A valid Certificate of Competence to act as a Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) from an environment-agency-approved Assessing Body — or strong, demonstrable experience in radioactive waste management strategies.

Proven background working as an RPA/RWA within a complex environment (nuclear, healthcare, research, or similar).

In-depth understanding of UK radiation protection legislation, including IRR17, EPR, and all relevant ACoPs and guidance.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with confidence in handling emergency or high-pressure situations.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities in the Role

Conduct site visits (onshore and offshore) to review working practices and ensure compliance with all applicable national and international radiation protection legislation.

Produce detailed scientific reports following visits and audits, outlining non-compliances and recommending improvements.

Deliver specialist radiological protection training (including RPS, Radiation Awareness, and Radiation Monitor User Training), often to clients with complex compliance needs.

Liaise with regulators such as the HSE, Environment Agency (EA), and SEPA, supporting clients with local rules, risk assessments, permits, and compliance documentation related to sealed sources and radioactive waste.

Monitor market trends and propose developments or enhancements to the organisation’s radiation protection services.
