Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Service Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Hamilton STAR and VANTAGE liquid handling systems. This role is primarily based onsite, responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of automation platforms, with occasional travel (approximately 20%) to support additional sites or projects.
This is a critical role ensuring high equipment uptime, operational efficiency, and support for laboratory automation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite technical support for Hamilton STAR and VANTAGE systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and servicing of equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults efficiently.
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new systems.
- Collaborate with lab teams to optimise workflows and automation processes.
- Maintain accurate service records, documentation, and compliance logs.
- Deliver user training and technical guidance to lab personnel.
- Liaise with OEM (Hamilton) and internal teams for escalations and upgrades.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and system performance enhancements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Essential: Proven experience working with Hamilton STAR and/or VANTAGE systems.
- Strong understanding of laboratory automation, liquid handling, and robotics.
- Experience in fault-finding, maintenance, and repair of complex instrumentation.
- Familiarity with software configuration and method setup (e.g. VENUS software desirable).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on engineering mindset.
- Ability to work independently in an onsite, customer-facing environment.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Desirable
- Background in life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical environments.
- Experience supporting GLP/GMP regulated environments.
- Electrical or mechanical engineering qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Previous field service or onsite support experience.
Working Pattern
- Primarily site-based role.
- Approx. 20% travel to support additional sites or projects.
