The Opportunity
Our client is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Bids Manager to join their growing team based in Stockton-on-Tees.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in driving business growth by leading the bid and tender process across a range of complex engineering projects. The successful candidate will take ownership of bid submissions from initial opportunity review through to final proposal submission, ensuring all tenders are delivered on time, fully compliant, commercially competitive and technically accurate.
Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Projects and Purchasing teams, the Bids Manager will act as the focal point for all tender activities and will be instrumental in converting opportunities into successful project awards.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the end-to-end bid and tender process for all approved opportunities.
- Coordinating cross-functional teams to develop high-quality technical and commercial proposals.
- Reviewing opportunities and determining the level of effort required to deliver successful submissions.
- Ensuring all bids comply with customer requirements, internal governance processes and relevant industry standards.
- Analysing costs and pricing to ensure proposals remain competitive while supporting profitability.
- Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date bids pipeline, providing reporting and KPI data to senior management.
- Presenting bid reviews internally and obtaining the necessary approvals prior to submission.
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure technical, commercial and operational alignment.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance bidding efficiency, accuracy and overall win rates.
- Supporting customer meetings and presentations for key opportunities where required.
The ideal candidate will have a proven background in bid management within an engineering, manufacturing or industrial environment and will be comfortable managing multiple opportunities simultaneously.
Applicants should possess:
- A Degree or HNC qualification in an Engineering or Technical discipline.
- Previous experience managing bids, tenders and technical proposals within a related industry.
- A strong understanding of engineering principles, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials.
- Experience working with tender portals and formal procurement processes.
- Excellent commercial awareness and cost analysis skills.
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and work to demanding deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- The confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels and present technical solutions both internally and externally.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and driving business success.
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings when required.
