Interim Assistant Accountant

We’re recruiting for an Interim Assistant Accountant to join a dynamic UK finance team, supporting key financial operations and contributing to accurate and timely reporting based in Newcastle for an intial 6 month role with the potential for a perm role, offering c.£18-22 per hour.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting day-to-day finance activities across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, while assisting with critical month-end processes. This is a varied and hands-on position, ideal for someone looking to build on strong accounting foundations.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End & Reporting

• Support month-end close processes to strict deadlines
• Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments
• Maintain accurate month-end schedules
• Assist with fixed asset accounting (additions, disposals, etc.)
• Support inventory valuation and prepaid stock accounting
• Assist in preparing monthly sales reports and discount analysis

Finance Operations

• Support credit control and manage overdue debt
• Raise sales invoices and maintain customer accounts
• Reconcile customer payments and resolve queries
• Process supplier invoices and reconcile supplier statements
• Assist with payment runs
• Calculate and invoice intercompany recharges
• Support VAT returns, audits, and statutory reporting
• Drive process improvements and strengthen financial controls

About You

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a similar finance role
• Strong understanding of AP and AR processes
• Experience with month-end, journals, and reconciliations
• Able to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail
• AAT qualified or currently studying
