Structural Steel Painter
Location: Brompton-on-Swale, Richmond
Pay: £14.87 per hour
Overtime: £22.31 per hour (x1.5)
Contract: Temp to Perm, transferring to a permanent contract in the 13th week following successful completion of 12 weeks
The Role
We are looking for a Painter to work within a structural steel manufacturing environment. The role will involve preparing and painting structural steel components, applying protective coatings and ensuring finished products meet the required quality standards.
This would suit someone with previous industrial, structural steel or similar painting experience who is comfortable working in a busy workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing structural steel components for painting, including cleaning and surface preparation
- Applying primers, paints and protective coatings to structural steel
- Using spray guns, brushes and rollers
- Mixing paints and coatings to achieve the required finish and consistency
- Carrying out quality checks on finished components before they leave the workshop
- Cleaning and maintaining painting equipment
- Completing relevant records and documentation
- Following site health, safety and environmental procedures
- Using overhead cranes where required
- Supporting with other reasonable duties within the workshop
What We're Looking For
- Ideally 2+ years' experience in structural steel painting or a similar industrial painting role
- Good understanding of surface preparation techniques
- Experience using spray guns, rollers and brushes
- Knowledge of different paints and protective coatings
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and punctual
- A positive, motivated and "can-do" approach
- Knowledge of relevant painting safety procedures
- Overhead crane experience would be beneficial
- Willingness to undertake on-the-job training
Pay & Contract
Basic Rate: £14.87 per hour
Overtime Rate: £22.31 per hour (x1.5)
This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, with successful workers transferring to a permanent contract in their 13th week after completing the initial 12-week temporary period.
Please note: This is a structural steel environment, so previous experience within structural steel, heavy engineering, fabrication or a similar industrial setting would be particularly advantageous.
