Plater - Backshift

Location: Brompton-on-Swale, North Yorkshire
Basic Pay: £18.06 per hour
Shift Allowance: +20%
Backshift Rate: £21.67 per hour
Contract: Temp to Perm, transferring to permanent employment in the 13th week

Shift Pattern

• Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm - 11:00pm
• Friday: 2:30pm - 8:30pm
• Monday to Friday overtime: x1.5 + 20% shift allowance
• Saturday overtime: 7:30am - 12:30pm, paid at basic rate x1.5

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Plater to join a structural steel fabrication environment on a permanent backshift pattern.

The position involves working with 5mm to 100mm plate, using engineering drawings to fabricate structural steel components and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and to production deadlines. Previous structural steel experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Plating and fabrication of structural steel components
• Working with plate ranging from 5mm to 100mm
• Reading and working accurately from engineering drawings
• Carrying out heat straightening
• Correct and safe use of grinders and associated consumables
• Using overhead cranes and lifting equipment
• Working to production targets and deadlines
• Maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship
• Following HSEQ procedures and safe working practices
• Working under your own initiative and as part of the wider team

What We're Looking For

• Time-served Plater or equivalent qualification
• Previous structural steel experience is essential
• Experience within heavy engineering or structural steel fabrication
• Excellent understanding of engineering drawings
• Knowledge of plating codes and standards
• Experience using overhead cranes and appropriate slinging techniques
• Strong practical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work to a high standard within time constraints
• Good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices
• City & Guilds / NVQ in Structural Steel Plating would be advantageous
• Candidates must be able to pass a trade test
